Atlanta – Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Gregory Jones, FBI Atlanta, in conjunction with Chief Jeff Turner, Clayton County Police Department, announces the arrest of Casey Carmichael, age 28, of Newnan, Georgia, on federal charges of Enticement of a Minor to Engage in Illicit Sexual Conduct/Child Sexual Molestation. Carmichael, a Police Officer for the Clayton County Police Department, was arrested yesterday, 9/16/07, at the Clayton County P.D. station by members of the FBI led Safe Child Task Force. Carmichael allegedly made contact, via the Internet and with the purpose of having sex, with an individual who he thought was a fourteen year old girl. The individual was actually an undercover law enforcement officer. Carmichael will appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge King at 3:00 p.m. today at the Richard B. Russell Federal Courthouse, Atlanta, Georgia for his initial appearance. The Safe Child Task Force is an FBI led coalition of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies working together to proactively target child sexual predators and producers/distributors of child pornography. It is noted that the Clayton County Police Department is a vital part of this federally funded Task Force and, as such, was instrumental in the investigation and arrest of the above individual. The public is reminded that the above are merely allegations and that all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law . |
