GEORGIA MAN ARRAIGNED
ON CHILD SEX TRAFFICKING CHARGES
Defendant Allegedly Enticed Child to Travel from Atlanta
to Other States for Prostitution

ATLANTA, Ga. – David Maurice Weaver, a.k.a “D-Weave,” 24, of Buena Vista, Ga., was arraigned today before U.S. Magistrate Russell Vineyard on federal charges of sex trafficking of a child, inducement to travel for prostitution and criminal sexual activity, and transportation of a minor for prostitution and criminal sexual activity. A bond hearing for Weaver has been set before Judge Vineyard for July 18, 2007, at 9:00 A.M. EDT.

U.S. Attorney David E. Nahmias said of the case, “This defendant allegedly took a young girl off the street and sexually victimized her repeatedly around the country. The sexual abuse of American children in the so-called ‘game’ of prostitution has become a serious problem, and we will attack it wherever we can.”

According to Nahmias and the documents and information presented in court: In July 2006, Weaver allegedly took a 13-year-old girl from Atlanta to various other cities and states, where he caused her to engage in prostitution. The cities included Alexandria, Va.; Washington, D.C.; Pittsburgh, Pa.; and Los Angeles, Calif. Weaver was indicted by a federal grand jury on the charges on June 26, 2007.According to the indictment, beginning in about July 2006 and continuing into September 2006, Weaver recruited, enticed, harbored and transported a child in and affecting interstate commerce for the purpose of engaging the child in commercial sex acts, prostitution and other criminal sexual activity. The indictment also contains a forfeiture provision stating the government’s intent that Weaver forfeit to the United States any and all of his personal and real property used to facilitate the crimes charged or representing proceeds of the crimes charged.

Members of the public are reminded that the indictment contains only charges. The defendant is presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government's burden to prove the defendant's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.

This case is being investigated by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Assistant United States Attorney Jane Wilcox Swift is prosecuting the case.
