Bank Robber Sentenced to Federal Prison

MACON: Maxwell Wood, United States Attorney announced that Daniel Scott Dewberry was sentenced May 23, 2007 before the Honorable C. Ashley Royal, United States District Judge for the Middle District of Georgia. Dewberry was sentenced to 151 months (12 years, 7 months) without the possibility of parole followed by three years of supervised release.

On December 19, 2006, Dewberry entered a guilty plea to one count of bank robbery in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2113. According to the facts stipulated in Court, Dewberry admitted to robbing the SunTrust Bank located on Hartley Bridge Road, Macon, Georgia. Dewberry entered the bank and presented a note stating that the bank was being robbed and demanded money. Dewberry received funds from the bank teller but as he fled the bank the money exploded with red dye. Dewberry fled the scene in his pickup truck. He was apprehended later that same evening after spending the proceeds from the robbery on illegal drugs.

U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia Maxwell Wood stated that “bank robbers should be on notice that they will be held accountable for their conduct and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”

The case as investigated by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Assistant United States Attorney Michael Solis prosecuted this case for the government.
