Courthouse Attacker Sentenced to Federal Prison

MACON: Maxwell Wood, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia announced that Christopher Ryland Hall was sentenced today before the Honorable C. Ashley Royal, United States District Judge for the Middle District of Georgia. Hall was sentenced to 105 months (8 years, 9 months) without the possibility of parole, followed by three years of supervised release.

On March 14, 2007, Hall entered a guilty plea to one count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 113. According to the facts stipulated in Court, Hall admitted to attacking the operator of the snack bar located in the Federal Courthouse in Macon, Georgia. Hall approached the individual who operated the snack bar as he was coming to work around 6:45 a.m. As the operator was walking into the courthouse, Hall approached from behind and demanded money. Hall, armed with a knife, stabbed the victim several times but did not receive any money. Hall fled the area on foot.

Law enforcement agencies initiated a sweep of the surrounding neighborhoods and later the same day, identified Hall as the attacker. Hall was positively identified as the attacker by witnesses.

Wood stated: “Today’s sentence serves notice to everyone that any individual who commits a violent crime within federal jurisdiction will meet swift justice and receive a significant sentence of imprisonment without the possibility of parole.”
