FEDERAL CORRECTIONAL OFFICER PLEADS GUILTY TO ACCEPTING A BRIBE

SAVANNAH, GA: Edmund A. Booth, Jr., United States Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia, announced that a federal correctional officer at the Federal Correctional
Institution (FCI), Jesup, Georgia, entered a plea of guilty today in U.S. District Court in Brunswick, Georgia, to accepting a bribe in return for facilitating the smuggling of contraband into the prison.

Robert G. Massey, age 42, a federal correctional officer at FCI, pleaded guilty before Senior U.S. District Judge Anthony A. Alaimo, to knowingly and corruptly accepting a cash payment of $1000 on April 21, 2007, in return for and with the intent to facilitate the smuggling of contraband into the federal prison; in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 201(b)(2). This charge carries a maximum statutory penalty of 15 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000. A pre-sentence investigation and report will be completed prior to sentencing. Massey remains on bond pending sentencing hearing.

Booth praised the joint efforts of Special Agent Claire Foley of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of the Inspector General, and Special Agent Tony Alig of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which led to the indictment and subsequent guilty plea.

The government is represented by Assistant United States Attorney Jeffrey J. Buerstatte.
